European NATO members are increasing defense spending and taking on greater responsibility for the alliance’s security amid concerns over Russia.
Secretary of War Pete Hegseth and German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius agreed to deepen cooperation between the U.S. and German defense industries, including expanded development and production of military equipment.
Germany is also moving toward NATO’s 5% defense-spending commitment and is considering the purchase of American-made Tomahawk missiles.
The developments come as the war in Ukraine continues and NATO allies respond to recent drone incidents along Europe’s eastern flank.
